Datasat invests in Scyron

Scyron, the security and surveillance services company, announced today a significant investment in its shareholding by Datasat Communications, the global satellite communication company. Datasat and existing investors such as NESTA (National Endowment for Science Technology and the Arts) plan to maximise the potential of Scyron’s research and development further in the UK and overseas.

Scyron’s Research and Development Lab based at University of Birmingham Research Park, has worldwide patents for its creation of a new category of intelligent surveillance based around capturing and analysing specific ‘incidents’. For example the company’s technology can trigger CCTV cameras to record only specific events such as a vehicle going through a security barrier while ignoring people on foot or a person entering a doorway while ignoring passers by. Typically, the technology reduces the cost and time it takes to manually analyse surveillance footage by more than 90%.

Datasat has purchased over 20 per cent of Scyron shares for two reasons. First, the company realises the opportunity to capitalise on Scyron’s world-leading surveillance technology to further gain share in the UK security market and internationally. Secondly, Datasat’s global satellite communication business provides a complementary secure network on which to transmit Scyron’s applications and solutions to remote locations around the world.

For example, suspicious images of incidents taking place from a remote location of either an overseas law enforcement or commercial security organisation can be detected automatically via Scyron’s incident-alarm system and transmitted securely back to base via Datasat’s satellite network. This network gives Scyron customers another choice of communication platform in addition to wireless and 3G GSM.

Phil Emmel, managing director of Datasat commented, “Scyron’s intelligent security and surveillance solutions represent a rare jewel of truly brilliant UK technological innovation. Datasat is excited about its investment – which together with the other investors - endorses Scyron’s aim to be the world leader in intelligent security and surveillance technology.”
